A suspension applied every year
Since 2006, Senegal has suspended onion imports every year, generally between February and July or August. The policy is intended to support the sale of local production and help stabilise prices.
Over the longer term, it forms part of the country’s goal of self-sufficiency. However, production volumes alone do not encompass all the conditions required to achieve that goal.
