In Jaxaay, access to healthcare remains a concern for some residents, as the municipality's hospital is not yet operational. The facility was still under construction in early September 2026, according to Dakaractu.
Residents interviewed by the outlet reported a lack of healthcare facilities in the municipality. They also link local health difficulties to the presence of stagnant water for several years, a situation which, they say, particularly affects women and young people.
An old project, work resumed in 2025
Jaxaay Hospital was built under the presidency of Abdoulaye Wade but was never inaugurated, Dakaractu reports. The outlet says work on the project had been halted for more than 12 years under Macky Sall's administration.
The Ministry of Health decided to resume work in January 2025. Construction was still continuing in September 2026.
Completion announced for March 2027
According to information gathered by Dakaractu at the site, work is scheduled to be completed by March 2027. Residents hoping for an improvement in healthcare provision in the municipality are awaiting this deadline.
