Prof. Moussa Seydi abandons HeRO foundation project after six years of efforts

Prof. Moussa Seydi has announced the abandonment of the Health and Research Organization (HeRO) foundation project after six years of efforts. The organisation was intended to support several health-related missions, including the maintenance and development of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department (SMIT) at Fann Hospital.

As head physician of the SMIT, Prof. Seydi explained that the foundation was notably intended to help cover the department’s maintenance costs. The aim was to ease certain hospital expenses and prevent new facilities from deteriorating, as the former SMIT did, according to the information he provided.

A State commitment cited

According to Prof. Seydi, the Senegalese State had signed a commitment, before the project’s first donor, to fully cover the SMIT’s maintenance. He says that commitment was not honoured. It was in this context that he had considered establishing HeRO as an alternative solution.

The doctor attributes the failure of the initiative to administrative obstacles. He stressed that his decision does not mean abandoning the fight against infectious diseases, but rather refusing to prolong efforts he considers unsuccessful.

Continuing support for the SMIT in another way

Prof. Seydi says he intends to continue, with those who wish to join him, direct actions in support of the SMIT outside the institutional framework initially planned. He thanked the notaries, founding members, researchers and donors who supported the project.

He specifically mentioned Maître Moustapha Ndiaye, Maître Tamsir Ndiaye and Yankhoba Seydi, Director of Research and Innovation at Cheikh Anta Diop University. In his statement, he also expressed confidence in the younger generation to bring to completion initiatives that his own generation was unable to complete.
