Médina Baye: Ascosen raises alarm over water access difficulties during Gamouwatt

The religious city of Médina Baye welcomes thousands of worshippers from different regions of Senegal and abroad for Gamouwatt. This influx increases demand for essential services, particularly access to water.

Abdou Badio, regional coordinator of the Senegal Consumers’ Association (Ascosen), reported that residents had experienced water shortages during the gamou. In his view, this difficulty must be avoided during Gamouwatt, as the large presence of pilgrims sharply increases needs in the city.

Facilities deemed insufficient

Abdou Badio said the difficulties persisted despite new connections and the installation of additional taps. He described a situation that had become particularly difficult for some Médina Baye residents.

The warning therefore concerns the capacity of the supply system to meet the temporary increase in demand during the major religious gatherings held in the city.

Electricity also raised

The Ascosen regional official also called on the relevant authorities over power cuts that occurred during the gamou. He believes these outages had negative consequences for residents.

For Gamouwatt, he is calling on the electricity company to strengthen the presence of its teams on site in order to prevent any possible disruptions.
