Sahel: France 24 raises possible link between two releases involving the FLA
The release of 82 Malian soldiers held by the Azawad Liberation Front comes amid a series of resolutions involving several captives in the Sahel. France 24 has raised the possibility of consideration linked to Tuareg commander Inkinane, a senior FLA figure.
A series of recent releases in the Sahel may involve separate, but at times connected, negotiations. France 24 cites in particular a French DGSE agent, an American pilot, Russian mercenaries and 82 Malian soldiers held by the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).
In the case of the Malian soldiers, their release is described as a gesture by the FLA. However, the channel believes that the initiative may have involved consideration: helping secure the release of Tuareg commander Inkinane, described as one of the movement's leading figures.
A hypothesis involving consideration
France 24 does not present this link as established. Its investigation examines the circumstances of commander Inkinane's release, as well as the identity of those who held him. These two questions are central to the hypothesis of a possible arrangement associated with the release of the 82 Malian soldiers.
The various cases mentioned were resolved within a short period of one another, while being described as separate affairs. The sequence illustrates the multiplicity of actors and captives across the Sahel region.
