Algeria is also seeking to strengthen the fight against terrorism through this air presence. For Akram Kharief, however, Algiers intends to pursue this objective without departing from its doctrine of non-intervention abroad.
The deployment therefore comes amid a security context marked by the thwarted mutiny in Niamey and concerns over terrorist threats in the region.
