Around 60 Senegalese who had been living in South Africa returned to Dakar on Monday evening, according to Senego. The group included children and was welcomed on arrival by the Directorate-General for Senegalese Abroad.
El Hadji Abdou Karim Cissé, director for Senegalese abroad, described the return as a voluntary repatriation operation. Those concerned reportedly decided to leave South Africa after facing difficult living conditions, including harassment, threats and violence which the source links to xenophobic acts targeting foreigners.
