President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following its mission to Dakar.

Led by Mercedes Vera Martin, the IMF mission chief for Senegal, the delegation included Majdi Debbich, Tatiana Mossot and Wautabouna Ouattara, Executive Director representing Senegal on the Fund’s Executive Board.

Review of a mission launched on August 19

Discussions focused on the work carried out in Dakar since August 19 and its main conclusions. The Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning, Cheikh Diba, and the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Bassirou Sarr, attended the meeting.

Cooperation with the Fund at the heart of discussions

The meeting also addressed prospects for cooperation between Senegal and the IMF. According to the reported information, the head of state stressed the importance of this partnership in efforts to strengthen the foundations of the national economy, reinforce financial stability and support the country’s development ambitions.
