Saint-Louis: 47 people referred to criminal court

Forty-seven people arrested in Saint-Louis have been referred to the city’s criminal court, following a submission by the public prosecutor’s office, according to information reported by SeneNews. The case is therefore due to be heard by that court.

Separate prosecutions depending on the cases

Most of those implicated are being prosecuted for criminal association and unnatural acts. Others have also been referred for intentional transmission of HIV and endangering the lives of others.

These classifications are among the prosecutions reported in these proceedings and will have to be examined by the court. Referral to the criminal court does not prejudge the outcome of the trial.

A series of arrests reported in Saint-Louis

According to the same source, these proceedings are part of several operations carried out since the start of 2026 by gendarmes in Saint-Louis. The Research Section and the city’s Research Brigade are cited in connection with these arrests.

Several waves of arrests are said to have followed one another in the 300-year-old city. SeneNews notably refers to an earlier group of eight people, also facing charges including criminal association, unnatural acts and intentional transmission of HIV.

The source also reports another case in Dakar: 15 people, detained since March, were reportedly referred to the criminal court at the end of August 2026. According to the report, they were being prosecuted on similar charges following a referral order issued by the senior investigating judge.
