Helicopter evacuations
More than 60 park visitors and employees were evacuated by helicopter, according to available information. Authorities were also continuing their search for those who remained unaccounted for.
The flood caught visitors by surprise and damaged several facilities. Footbridges, rocks and metal structures were swept away by the force of the water, while footage filmed at the scene shows a muddy torrent crossing trails and flowing beneath footbridges.
An area hit by severe weather
The heavy rain that caused the sudden rise in water levels also carried away logs and various debris. Emergency crews remained deployed as further thunderstorms were forecast for the area.
The toll remains provisional, with searches still under way for the approximately 15 people reported missing.
