Weather: Rain and thunderstorms expected from southern to central Senegal

The National Civil Aviation and Meteorology Agency (ANACIM) has announced a risk of rain and thunderstorms in several areas of Senegal in the evening and overnight from 31 August to 1 September.

The weather events are expected to first affect the south of the country, including Kédougou, Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor. They could then spread to Tambacounda, Kaffrine, Koungheul, Kaolack and Fatick.

Generally stable weather before the disturbances

For this period, forecasts also indicate stable, at times cloudy weather across the country. The disturbances expected late in the day and overnight therefore represent the main expected change in the regions concerned.

ANACIM is urging people exposed to thunderstorms to exercise caution, particularly when travelling or carrying out outdoor activities in the evening and overnight.

Up to 40°C in Bakel

Maximum temperatures forecast for Monday, 31 August 2026, will remain high in several localities. Bakel is forecast to reach 40°C, ahead of Podor at 39°C and Matam at 38°C.

Saint-Louis and Linguère are expected to reach 36°C, and Louga 35°C. Dakar is forecast at 32°C, while Thiès and Mbour are expected to record 33°C. In central areas, Fatick and Kaolack are forecast at 34°C, compared with 35°C in Kaffrine.

In the south and south-east, forecast highs range from 33°C in Ziguinchor, Sédhiou and Kédougou to 34°C in Kolda and Tambacounda.
