An individual sought as part of proceedings over breach of trust and the alleged misappropriation of CFA50 million was arrested at the Rosso border crossing before being handed over to investigators at the Mbao district police station.

According to the information reported, he had been subject to a ban on entering and leaving the country since 4 November 2025. The measure had been flagged by Mbao police as part of the judicial proceedings opened against him.

Alert detected in Rosso

The alert was reportedly detected when he passed through the Rosso border post on 29 August 2026. Another report places the arrest carried out by Mbao police on 30 August.

After his arrest, the individual was first taken to the Saint-Louis central police station before being transferred to Mbao, the department handling the case. He was placed in police custody after being informed of his rights, according to published information.

Complaint involving a mutual savings and credit institution

The man is the subject of a complaint filed with the public prosecutor by the chairman of the board of directors of a mutual savings and credit institution. He is accused of misappropriating an amount estimated at CFA50 million in the course of his duties or professional dealings with the institution.

He then reportedly left the country for Morocco. Investigators must in particular establish the circumstances of the alleged acts and the destination of the funds concerned.

Proceedings under way

The alleged acts may be classified as breach of trust, subject to the investigation and the assessment of the judicial authorities. Once the investigation is completed, the case file is to be referred to the courts, which will decide what action to take. The individual remains presumed innocent unless and until a final court ruling establishes his guilt.
