2027 presidential election: Olivier Faure confirms candidacy in left-wing primary

Olivier Faure has entered the race for the left-wing primary ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The Socialist Party's First Secretary officially announced his candidacy on Sunday evening during TF1's 8 p.m. news bulletin.

Before the television appearance, the Socialist leader had informed MPs in his group of his decision. His candidacy places him at the heart of the contest being organised within the social-democratic camp.

Raphaël Glucksmann already in the race

Olivier Faure will notably face Raphaël Glucksmann. The MEP, co-president of Place publique, is also a candidate in the presidential election and in this primary. France 24 describes him as one of the frontrunners in the vote.

Raphaël Glucksmann described the contest as a possible moment of renewal for the left. He also played down the possibility of a candidacy by François Hollande, saying that voters want to open a new political chapter.

Internal vote scheduled for October

According to the information reported, the social-democratic camp's primary is due to take place in October. Several figures have already declared their candidacies or are expected to do so.

By standing as a candidate, Olivier Faure is seeking the primary's nomination to represent the left in the 2027 presidential election. He also said he wanted to prevent Marine Le Pen from reaching the Élysée Palace, according to Benin Web TV.
