Al Aminou Lô’s policy address: September 8 proposed, presidential decision awaited

The general policy statement (DPG) by Prime Minister Al Aminou Lô has been proposed for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by the National Assembly’s Conference of Presidents. The date is not yet final: the wording adopted provides that it applies “subject to another date set by the President of the Republic”.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye may therefore maintain this date or choose another one, before or after September 8. Under the rules cited by Senego, this decision must be made within eight days; failing that, the parliamentary proposal would apply.

An extraordinary session under way since September 1

A presidential decree, referenced No. 2026-1530 and transmitted on August 25, convened the National Assembly for an extraordinary session from September 1 at 10 a.m. The DPG is the sole item on the agenda, although the text did not specify a precise date for the Prime Minister’s address.

September 1 had initially been mentioned, with Al Aminou Lô stating that he would be available from 9 a.m. that day. Discussions within the Assembly Bureau, followed by the Conference of Presidents meeting, subsequently led to the September 8 proposal.

Preparations continue

At the National Assembly, preparations for the sitting are continuing on the basis of the proposed date. The allocation of speaking time and Bureau meetings may nevertheless be adjusted if a new date is set by the Head of State.

The DPG allows the Prime Minister to present the direction of government action before MPs. For now, the timetable for this parliamentary sequence depends on the presidential decision on the date of the sitting.
