Maguette Sène discusses Malicounda, his new coalition and national issues

Malicounda Mayor Maguette Sène set out his views on local and national issues in an interview broadcast by Dakaractu. Also a member of the National Assembly and president of the “And Liggey Gox Yi” coalition, he notably addressed municipal action, his political prospects and the economic climate.

Local governance and new coalition

The discussion covered the record of the Malicounda municipality, projects announced for the remainder of the term and support from the central government for local authorities.

Maguette Sène also presented “And Defar Gox Yi”, a new coalition named “La Marche des territoires”. He outlined its foundations, objectives, launch timetable, electoral ambitions and possible alliances. A message was also addressed to his original political camp.

National Assembly and government action

As a member of parliament, the Malicounda mayor gave his analysis of the tensions recently raised between the executive and legislative branches. He argued for a role for the National Assembly that could help restore institutional balance.

With the Prime Minister’s general policy statement approaching, he also set out his expectations and indicated the signals expected from the government.

Debt, IMF and local investment

The interview also addressed the national economic situation. Maguette Sène spoke about the audit into hidden debt and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. He linked these issues to the investment capacity of local authorities.
