Abass Fall denies claim that Bassirou Diomaye Faye refused to greet him
A video shared on social media suggested that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye had refused to greet Dakar Mayor Abass Fall. The mayor says this was not the case and calls for political rivalry not to be confused with courtesy and respect.
Dakar Mayor Abass Fall has responded to the circulation of a video that went viral on social media. The footage was presented as showing President Bassirou Diomaye Faye failing to respond to the mayor’s outstretched hand.
In a clarification, Abass Fall denied that interpretation. He said no refusal to greet him can be attributed to the head of state on the basis of those images.
A disputed interpretation
According to the Dakar mayor, the person behind the video was mistaken “in good faith”. His intervention is therefore intended to put an end to the controversy sparked by the circulation of the footage and the interpretation made of it.
Abass Fall also stressed that disagreements or rivalry in the political arena should not override the rules of courtesy and respect.
A denial from the person concerned
The clarification provided by the mayor directly addresses the idea of personal tension between him and the President of the Republic. Abass Fall rejects the claim that Bassirou Diomaye Faye deliberately refused to greet him.
