Keur Massar: Three Local JPS Leaders Announce Departure from PASTEF

Three local leaders of the Patriotic Youth of Senegal (JPS) have announced their departure from PASTEF in the Keur Massar department. Abdoul Aziz Sow, Cheikh Gning and Modou Mar all say they want to align themselves with the political momentum led by President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.

Departures announced separately

Abdoul Aziz Sow, described as the former coordinator of JPS Keur Massar North and a member of the JPS Departmental Executive Bureau, has formalised his resignation. He says he is now turning towards the prospect of creating a new party led by the head of state, while maintaining his respect and regard for PASTEF activists.

Cheikh Gning, former coordinator of JPS Malika and former departmental vice-coordinator, has also left the party. After several years of involvement in the movement, he says he wants to continue his political journey alongside President Faye. He specifies that his departure does not call into question the values that guided his activism.

Modou Mar joins KIRAAY

The third resigning member, Modou Mar, was communications officer for JPS PASTEF in Keur Massar. An activist since 2020, he has announced that he is joining KIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, a group that also identifies with the presidential momentum.

Modou Mar says he put his communications skills at PASTEF's service before resigning and now wishes to continue contributing them within KIRAAY.

A shared stated position

Despite holding different roles in local JPS structures, the three former leaders describe their decisions as personal and carefully considered. Their departures, all concentrated in the Keur Massar department, come amid a political realignment around the president.
