Pastef MP Amadou Ba has commented on the postponement of the Prime Minister’s General Policy Statement (DPG). In a Facebook post relayed by Senego, he said the postponement comes at an opportune time in light of the debt situation.

According to him, the future DPG will have to be drafted taking into account a new reality, which he describes as debt restructuring. The lawmaker also uses the expression “homeopathic treatment” to refer to this prospect.

Policy directions to be adjusted, according to the MP

Amadou Ba believes that the broad economic and social policy directions to be presented during the DPG should not be set without incorporating this framework. In his view, the postponement prevents these directions from being defined on a basis that has become unsuitable.

He says the forthcoming statement will have to comply with the requirements and difficulties that debt restructuring would entail. This position reflects his political assessment of the expected content of the government exercise.
