Threats against Babacar Fall: SYNPICS calls for protective measures

The Senegalese Union of Information and Communication Professionals (SYNPICS) has denounced death threats targeting Babacar Fall, a journalist at RFM. The threats followed an edition of RFM Matin devoted to Serigne Abdou Sy.

In a statement, the trade union organisation described the acts as attacks on freedoms. It stressed that journalists must not be subjected to threats, intimidation or pressure in the course of their work.

A call for protection and an investigation

In response to the situation, SYNPICS is calling on the authorities to take the necessary steps to guarantee Babacar Fall's safety. The union is also requesting the opening of an investigation to identify those behind the threats and bring them before the courts.

Press freedom invoked

SYNPICS expressed its solidarity with the RFM journalist. It reiterated its call for effective protection for media professionals and respect for press freedom.
