Alioune Tine calls for transparent, socially balanced restructuring

Alioune Tine has called for the restructuring plan discussed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to be framed by measures aimed at protecting the most vulnerable households and the middle classes.

The founder-president of Afrikajom Center believes support for the initiative will depend in particular on how the sacrifices are shared. In his view, the planned adjustments must not worsen the situation of already vulnerable groups or further increase the burden on the middle classes.

Reducing state spending

In his statement, Alioune Tine urged the government to significantly reduce state spending. He advocates a fairer contribution to the efforts required, so that the same citizens are not systematically the first to suffer the consequences.

He does not reject the principle of restructuring, which he considers unavoidable in the current context. Rather, his appeal concerns the conditions for its implementation and the need to share both its efforts and its opportunities.

A call for transparency

Alioune Tine also stressed the need for transparency in public management. He recommends that citizens be informed about the various points of the agreement and calls for a return to the principles of good governance.

He noted that President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye had placed transparency in the conduct of public affairs at the heart of his first speeches. Alioune Tine urged him to maintain that approach in managing the restructuring process.
