Bougane Guèye says recovery should not be reduced to an IMF agreement

Bougane Guèye, leader of the Gueum Sa Bopp “les Jambaars” Movement, has warned against presenting a possible agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as an economic victory or as a sufficient response to the recovery effort.
According to him, such an agreement could help manage public finances, support the restoration of macroeconomic balances and facilitate the return of concessional financing. However, he believes these effects alone would not put the economy back on a path to recovery.
A call for a national strategy
The political leader believes the impact of an IMF agreement would remain limited without a dedicated national strategy. He proposes drawing up an economic recovery plan bringing together the state, the private sector and social partners.
For Bougane Guèye, the proposed agreement should therefore be seen as a financial and macroeconomic opportunity, but not as a single solution to the country’s recovery challenges.
